Flowers have individual “personalities.” Some like garden roses and viburnums are soft and romantic. Others, like calla lilies and fressias, are linear and crisp. Daisies are casual and fun, while peonies are ruffly and ultra feminine. Bird of paradise and proteas say, “I am exotic!” So what is your flower style?

Is your style gardenesque? Gardenesque styles are whimsical, airy, lush and soft. These flowers inspire dreams of fragrant fields and romantic paths. Whether arranged alone or in combinations these blossoms are feminine and festive. Flowers that fall in this category are Sunflowers, Dahilias, Hydrangeas, Peonies, Snapdragons just to name a few.

Is your style modern? Modern styles are unique, forms cleanliness and have less foliage, making these blossoms ideal for striking geometric arrangements or tailored groupings. Flowers that fall under modern styles are Cymbidium Orchid, Bells of Ireland, Horsetail Bamboos, Mini Calla lilies, Gerbera daisies and Phalaenopsis orchids just to name a few.

An exotic style is spicy and funky, chic and unexpected. These bold blooms often are best highlighted alone for stunning forms and colors or used in simple combinations that allow their beauty and unmistakable style to shine through. Blooms that fall in this category are Anthurium, Monstera Leaf, Ginger Flower, Birds of Paradise or Upright Heliconia just to name a few.

Finally the classic style. These beautiful flowers have graced many wedding ceremonies and celebrations throughout the ages. These flowers may represent a good-luck charm, or a cherished moment in your life. These flowers are often in white or sometimes muted off-whites and beiges. Tend to go well with a neutral palette. Such flowers are Gardenia, Babies Breath, Miniature calla lilies, Roses, Stephanotis and Lisianthus just to name a few.

Of course, flowers cannot be unequivocally categorized. This is just a starting point for inspiration. Think about what you like. Then choose flower combinations that appeal to you. This guide will help you identify what flowers that harmonizes with your wedding theme. Mix and match styles for an eclectic look, or design different moods for your ceremony and your reception.

Today’s brides are classic and elegant, and it shows in their color choices! It’s all about black and white! Brides are putting a modern twist on this classic combination by showcasing black flowers and accessories. Adding a third color choice is the perfect way to incorporate a dramatic splash of color to the wedding day. Brides are choosing shades of blue, clover green, orange, gold, bright yellow and lavender to do just that.

In case you were wondering, steel gray will replace chocolate brown as the new accent color for 2009. It can be paired with almost anything and looks great with both bright and monotone colors

Now if you’re wondering how we became “Graphic Affairs”: In started I business in 1999 helping friends and family in New York plan their event. I wanted every event to b different and custom for every individual and their budget, something different and unique for the fashionista, or the diva minded person. Coming from a graphic design and interior design background I let my creativity sore and roam. Always wanting to challenge my creativity, and getting bored with making the same things over and over again, I decided it was time for something new and different in 2006. While I relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina and attended a Wedding Expo I came upon a company that was selling supplies for weddings and other events. After seeing what they had to offer, I decided: why not offer something beautiful and unique to Brides and the Socialite rather than the same old theme or design? I got excited at the idea of making beautiful masterpieces or a work of art, to get the WOW factor and the prospect of designing something new and different for each event was appealing. My trip to that Wedding Expo proved to be a beautiful “affair” for me, thus the name “Graphic Affairs”, a marriage of my background and the divine inspirations of what I saw that day
